2014
‘What is it?’ was a circus inspired dance piece exploring side shows and freakshows from the 19th century to the present day. From the elephant man to Stevie Wonder, the bearded lady to Celeste Dandeker, the piece takes us on a journey through the struggles of disabled performance artists as they explore the history of disability arts. ‘What is it?’ utilised aerial, puppetry and mime and featured our signature mix of live and pre-recorded audio description.

Music is a big part of Niall’s (artistic director) artistic practise. Here you can find some of the pieces Niall has made recently.
Description: A soothing song combining sounds of running water, human voice and melodic synth
Description: A heavy and fast paced song with heavily distorted electric guitar sound and high pitched synth melody on top
Description: A delicate song with an airy feeling. It is composed of a range of synth sounds and rhythmical clicks.
Description: A breezy and friendly song composed of electronic wind instruments accompanied by a acoustic guitar.
Video description: A still video of an empty grassy field with a path going down the middle and trees in the background. It’s a slightly windy day moving the grass, trees and clouds in the sky.
This Visualiser video contains three tracks made by Niall Cullen
Track 1: Living Inside a Fantasy Game — A song composed of multiple layers of electronic wood instruments. Together, they create a whimsical and mellow sound, reminiscent of a 90s fantasy game soundtrack.
Track 2: The Happiness — A laid-back and gloomy sound created by low- and high-pitched synths, accompanied by a steady electronic beat. The song feels melancholic, yet suggests a sense of things always moving forward.
Track 3: The Opening of a Box — A song composed of synths and the human voice, building from a low rumble into layered textures with a deep, raw voice, creating a sense of awe and revelation.
